The Interview:
Hi there Nic Fanciulli it’s great to speak to you here in the VMM.
VMM Q: The VMM would like to ask you Nic how has 2011 been for you so far and are you ready for the summer season that’s about to kick off?
Nic Fanciulli: 2011 has been a really exciting year for me so far. As far as the label goes we have had a really good year and released some amazing music like the Steve Mac artist album and huge tracks from artists such as LEON and Jordan Peak. Personally it’s given me the opportunity to work with some great artists on some great labels, so I’d say I’m just about ready to take it up a notch in the summer season Â
VMM Q: This is the 10th year of Revolution at Space Ibiza so can you tell the VMM when did you become a resident DJ Nic for this massive night?
Nic Fanciulli: I started to play for Carl in 2009 then last year he asked me to become resident. I think this year is gonna be special as it’s his 10th year and we have some great guests playing.
VMM Q: Can you tell the VMM while being resident DJ for Revolution at Space Ibiza do you have any stand out memories Nic that you can share with us?
Nic Fanciulli: My Birthday last year. I closed the Terrace after LTJ Bukem, and I had Carl on the mic making people go crazy.
VMM Q: Nic you have been DJing for many years now and you must of seen a big change in the equipment used so can you tell the VMM what’s your thoughts on the new style of Digital djing with laptops and USB sticks and what’s the sound system like at worlds no.1 club Space Ibiza compared to other clubs around the world?
Nic Fanciulli: Space Ibiza has an amazing sound system and it’s always a pleasure to play there. As far as digital DJing goes, I play using my laptop and Traktor 2. For me this gives me a lot of leeway to give the crowd something I wouldn’t have been able to play on vinyl. This said, I do miss playing on vinyl a lot, the feel of playing a record you love, you can’t beat it!
VMM Q: You are known for supporting new fresh talent Nic through your very own imprint Saved Records, so what new names are coming through this year and we should keep a look out for?
Nic Fanciulli: Guys like Jordan Peak and Gary Beck and really starting to make a name for themselves, and it’s a pleasure having them on the label. My brother, Mark Fanciulli is making some great music at the moment too.
VMM Q: Can you tell the VMM your top 5 tracks for Summer 2011!
Nic Fanciulli:
1. Butch – Big Futt [Cecille]
2. Harvey McKay – Show Face [Saved Records]
3. Mark Fanciulli – The Tide [Rejected]
4. Nic Fanciulli & Rolando – Unknown –Saved
5. Alex Tepper & Paul Harris – Mumbo Gumbo [Saved Records]
VMM Q: In to the studio now, can you tell the VMM as a Grammy nominated producer do you have any studio tips to pass on to budding producers for getting that big final mix sound and is it all in the mastering or more Nic?
Nic Fanciulli: For me the big change was down too the mastering. I made a change to a company called Time tools in Germany a few years back and this is when I think my stuff started to sound the best. All the artists that are on saved have there stuff mastered there and they are blown away with it. I always had a problem with my kicks and bass line sitting really tight, but now these guys fix that for me.
VMM Q: Finally Nic the VMM would like to ask what are your new productions that we can look out for hitting the download stores this summer?
Nic Fanciulli: I’m starting really early work on my artist album at the moment, which is exciting. I’ve also been working in the studio on a follow up to my last Saved release as well as collaborations with some really exciting artists!
The VMM thanks Nic Fanciulli for taking time out of his schedule to speak to us and we wish hope you have great time this summer at Revolution 10th Birthday at Space Ibiza 2011.
