The VMM places In the Spotlight Avicii, a.k.a. Tim Bergman who is the latest in a line of talented Swedish DJs/producers with the ability to shape the future of dance music. Still only 21 years old, he is responsible for the huge crossover hit „Bromance‟ (under his Tim Berg alias), and as Avicii, counts the likes of Pete Tong, Tiesto, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and many more as fans of his style.Avicii will hit the Miami stages this March and April will see the release of his mix of the Award nominated Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation. Strictly Rhythm head of A & R, Seamus Haji comments on the decision to ask Avicii to select and mix the latest Strictly Miami compilation, “We‟re always moving forward on a global level and Avicii is a DJ Producer that is really making a name for himself right now and inspiring a lot of the new breed. He knows how important the heritage of a label like Strictly is and I think he‟s done a great job of combining his sound with ours and introducing us to a new audience”.

The VMM is very pleased to get an insight into Avicii career so far and find out how he put together the Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation.

The Interview:

Hi there Avicii hope you are well and looking forward to a packed year!

VMM Q: Avicii you are from Sweden and the VMM would like to ask you what’s the clubbing scene like there compared the rest of the world?

Avicii: Hmmm the clubbing scene in Sweden is quite good actually; it’s only in Stockholm that we don’t really have one which is a shame!

VMM Q: Avicii can you tell the VMM how and when did you start to DJ and produce dance music?

Avicii: I started when I was about 17 years old by downloading the demo of a program I heard about from a friend. At first I was just gonna try and do a remix of an old video game track but I got hooked instantly and have been producing almost daily since!

VMM Q: The VMM would like to know how would you best describe the Avicii sound for people that are just discovering you?

Avicii: I would describe it as big room melodic house!

VMM Q: Avicii you have just finished mixing the Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation so the VMM would like to ask how did you feel being asked to do such a high profile compilation?

Avicii: Oh it was a big honour for me! Strictly is such an influential label with so many good tracks under its belt so was really cool to dig into their catalogue and do a mix!

VMM Q: Can you tell the VMM from so many great tracks how did you narrow down the Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation track list choice was it difficult?

Avicii: Not really! I mean since Strictly Rhythm mixes are mainly comprised of the in house tracks I knew where to look :)

VMM Q: Looking at the track list there are fantastic names on their Prok & Fitch, Armand Van Helden, Erick Morillo, Bob Sinclar, Dirty South, Chris Lake, Thomas Gold, Moguai and yourself of course but can you tell the VMM from all these well known producers who has been an inspiration to you as a young DJ producer?

Avicii: Hmm the biggest inspiration to me has definitely been the Swedish guys, the SHM and Eric Prydz. They’re the ones who got me into making house in the first place!

VMM Q: The VMM would like to know what studio set up do you have and can you give any tips on how best to get that perfect kick sound in a track?

Avicii: Never really had much of a studio setup until now! My manager just finished our new studio 2 weeks ago so haven’t really had time to sit there yet. I’m using FL studio as my sequencer and a midi keyboard and that’s about it. Haha I always sample my kicks, I’ve tried making my own but never really get the result I want when I do.

VMM Q: Avicii if you’re not mixing or producing dance music what other music do you enjoy and get inspiration from these days?

Avicii: There are so many genres I enjoy! I can honestly say I get inspiration from almost everything!

VMM Q: Avicill can you tell the VMM what you most love about djing and producing dance music in this new digital age?

Avicii: The thing I love most about this profession is when you play one of your own tracks in front of a bunch of people and watch it go off, there’s nothing that beats that feeling! Plus it’s great to be able to travel as much as I do, even if it means spending time away from your family and friends.

VMM Q: Your career is going from strength to strength Avicii so can you tell the VMM what goals have you set for yourself for 2011 that you would like to achieve?

Avicii: I haven’t really set any goals this year. I try to just go with the flow as much as I can, and I guess I will just try to keep on producing and touring and do what I have been doing in 2010!

The VMM thanks Avicii for taking time out to speak to us and we wish you further success in 2011. Also don‟t forget to check out the Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation VMM album Review and you can buy Strictly Rhythm Miami 2011 compilation in all good online stores from April 5th 2011.
