Agaric – Who Made Up The Rules – Ovum

Patrik Skoog aka Agaric a Techno & House producer from Sweden who’s music is best described as Creative groves and interesting design of Sound that will get your groove moving which over the last few years seen him firmly establish what he’s about!. Hi music has seen support from leading DJ’s ike Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Loco Dice, Ben Klock, Luciano, Joris Voorn, Magda, Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, and Adam Beyer and he sure has me hooked in as well as Josh Wink, who went on to sign this album debut to his Ovum imprint.

So let’s take a closer look at this collection of tracks.

  • TRACK 1.Star Core : This track opens with Futuristic space sound design and metallic rhythmic pattern building groove that then leads into a slow pounding repetitive chord and a melodic bubble lead line a some, what Chilled vibe and cool opener for this intriguing album that perfectly sets the feel for what’s to come.
  • TRACK 2. Who Made Up The Rules : Straight in with this one to a bumping drum rhythm that soon finds a wicked bass groove that set’s the whole track up with Vocal samples “Made up the Rules” & percussive elements that move constantly around the bass which holds the track together throughout.
  • TRACK 3.Nahua :This opens with a very interesting layered rhythmic pattern & slight soft synth stabs that grows and builds to a high pad & tribal House vibe hypnotic piece.
  • TRACK 4. No Way I Know I Feel :This track has vague elements almost a feel of the classic track by faithless insomnia but played backwards, very strange and wired sound but fantastic track with again an Hypnotic groove and vibe.
  • TRACK 5. Run (Ostern Jam) :Interesting way the vocals are used again in this track clever vocal sample editing wicked loving this track and the guitar effect vibes that trip through this track with the fantastic oriental flowing groove.( See Video )
  •  TRACK 6. Ebisu Interlude : This is a minimalistic track with very interesting and quirky sounds interlaced throughout the piece and an oriental style melody that vaguely is suggested very interesting.
  • TRACK 7. Métro: Again a wonderfully experimental way of use of a vocal that’s used as part of the rhythmic core of this grooving track like it!.
  • TRACK 8. Inside My Head: Wired  with a bumping groove
  • TRACK 9. Shot By Light: An excellent groove that has you hooked in from the first beat again some very interesting use of vocal samples love this very Hypnotic.
  • TRACK 10. Drifter: Again a lovely minimalistic groove which has a wired silence bang in the middle of the track would work in LIVE set bit strange when listening via headphones as an album but love the second half of this track.

Overall Patrik Skoog aka Agaric has created a wired but wonderful collection of Hypnotic grooves and crafted synchronisms worth a listen even just for your curiosity very creative!
