Cosmic Gate “Back 2 The Future”- VMM Artist Interview
The masters of dance Cosmic Gate duo (Stefan ‘Bossi’ Bossems and Nic Chagall) who launch there new album Back 2 The Future out on the iconic label Black Hole Recordings. So the VMM is very excited to once again speak to this amazing production duo who were once again voted at No.24 in 2010 dj mag awards. Now this new album is available for download this Jan 2011.
The Interview:
Hi guy’s great to speak to you again here in the VMM about your new album.
Q VMM: The VMM would like to know why did you decide to put this sort of Cosmic Gate album together?
COSMIC GATE: Actually the first reason that we started to think about Back 2 The Future was, that we still liked to play the “old tracks” in our dj sets, but the sound quality from this early work simply was not good enough anymore in our eyes, and on top the whole sound of these tunes did not fit the feeling of our current sets anymore! out of these reasons we decided to first do some new versions ourselves for some dj sets, and after this worked really well and people were asking for these new mixes a lot, we thought maybe its time to rework the old tracks, and make a whole CD for the fans. The result you can find on Back to the future, we think a tool for every Cosmic Gate fan, no matter if you like 1999 or 2011 style.
Q VMM: Can you tell the VMM how long was the process deciding who would be part of this massive project and how did you decide who would remix your classic tracks ?
COSMIC GATE: It took quiet some month indeed, from deciding what tracks to remix, thinking of who will be remixing, contacting the remixers, these guys to finish the remixes, all the artwork and timing had to be done, so for sure we started already 7 or 8 month before, good things take time like we say here in Germany…
Q VMM: Cosmic Gate you released in November 2010 Exploration Of Space (2011Remixes) that’s from the “Back 2The Future” Album what did you do for this remake of your classic and what does this track mean to you as one of your classics?
COSMIC GATE: Sure Exploration of Space is one of our best known tracks, and was one of the priorities from the album, that`s why we also made one of the remixes by ourselves. It was our first really big hit we had back in 2000, and the Remix for Back 2 the Future made it to #1 in the beatport.com trance charts already, so we hope the story of this track is still going on.
Q VMM: You have a massive diverse selection of remixes on this album was this a conscious decision to do this or did it just happen?
COSMIC GATE: We tried to have different kind of producers remix our tracks, we wanted to have a wide range from house via progressive to of course most trance mixes. With these different remixes, for us it was nice to see that our music also fitted well out of the trance context, and some really great remixes from e.g. Robbie Rivera, DJ Delicious or Dimitri Vegas & Mike Like showed this a lot., Back to the future is def. not only an album for trance fans, we have very good reactions also from out of the trance scene, making us very happy of course.
Q VMM: Can you tell the VMM what are for you your favourite re-works remixes that you are most happy with that are featured on the “Back 2The Future” Album?
COSMIC GATE: This is really hard to say, we think every single remix has its own quality, the remixers treated every track with respect, kept the vibe alive and transported it into 2011! We actually prefer people to make their own minds up about what`s the best or favourite mix, we think Back 2 the future offers a unique range of modern club music, that every Electronic Dance Music lover should find its taste represented on the Album!
Q VMM: Can you tell the VMM will you be planning a tour for this iconic Album for the release in early 2011?
COSMIC GATE: There is not a special Back 2 the Future tour planned, but we for sure are touring constantly also in 2011 and around the release date. What we can say, is that we play a lot of the new mixes in our sets, they make a majority of the music we play recently, so every party is kind of a release date already, to check on our tourdates and news, the easiest is to go to cosmic-gate.de
Q VMM: You have achived so much and we see you featured high in the DJ mag top 100 poll each year so can you tell the VMM what’s your new goals for 2011?
COSMIC GATE: We have started with new songs already few weeks before, the goal for 2011 is to have a new album ready for the summer, filled with brand new music and interesting cooperations, thats our main goal for the next year!
Q VMM: Finally Cosmic Gate where can the VMM viewers download and buy this quality “Back 2The Future” Album when is it out on release Jan 2011?
COSMIC GATE: The Back 2 the future album will be released worldwide on January 24th, we are really happy with the support support and reactions about the first singles so far, and cant wait till the album will be out already now!
