Feided
Fei-Fei owner of “Feided” is growing to be one of the leading female DJ producers in the electronic music industry today and with her newly launched label called Feided she will definitely be doing it her Way the Feided Way. VMM speaks to Los Angeles US based, Fei-Fei about her newly launched dance music label. We ask how it all began and what we can expect in releases from this new label imprint and more for 2010.
The Interview:
Hi Fei-Fei hope the VMM finds you well today! Hello! Thank you so much for having me here.
QVMM: Fei –Fei when did you decide you wanted to become a dj and also produce your own tracks?
FEI – FEI : Many many years ago when I was bit by the bug! Back in ’98 I was at a friend’s house and there was music playing that I’ve never heard before. I was consumed and taken for a crazy journey. The CD was Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva’s X-Mix-3. My friend was like, “You should check out some parties”. That opened the floodgates. I got into the whole scene with the whole Detroit techno sound. I started going to all these underground parites that were going on at the Midwest at that time—barn parties, outdoor massives, dirty warehouse parties…You name it I was there. Long as there was dark dirty banging music I was there. And once I was there I would dance for hours on end and watch the DJ work the crowd. I pretty much decided at the very first party I went to. I HAD to be the person making the music.
QVMM: Now to the newly launched label. Can you tell the VMM Fei-Fei why did you want your own label imprint and why the name “Feided”?
FEI – FEI :I want to cause some trouble and stir things up a bit! Feided spawns a bold and edgy sound—artists daring to push the boundaries of dance music, whether it’s trance, techno, or progressive. As a DJ I can’t really label myself into any one certain genre. I like to play stuff that’s all over the place. Good music is good music! As a Producer I’m influenced by a variety of different types of music so I like to experiment and get a little creative. As a label owner, I’d like to encourage the same, and allow people to try new things. The really unfortunate downfall of working with a major label is that sometimes you don’t always have total control. Feided is all about more creative control. We want to put out the music that we want, when we want, and reach out to the fans and give them what they want. It’s about supporting new artists, and new sounds and that’s what’s going to keep the music interesting. No rules, no limits.
As for the name, it’s an expansion of the Feided brand (podcasts, video diaries, etc) so it just made sense. It’s a play on my name obviously but it’s also like “Are you ready to get Feided?” Because you’re in for the ride of your life 
QVMM: The VMM would like to ask you Fei-Fei to describe the Feided labels sound?
FEI – FEI : No boundaries! Badass! Bold! Edgy…expect the unexpected…
QVMM: Can you tell the VMM what releases do you have coming out in the coming months on Feided?
FEI – FEI :It’s coming June 15, 2010!! The label’s debut will be one of my own productions, it’s a massive vocal bomb called “Twilight” featuring singer/songwriter Molly Jenson, also based in the US. Twilight made an exclusive appearance on Markus Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast winning the Global Selection, Tiesto’s Club Life, and it’s gathering quite a bit of early support from Mixmag, DJ Times, as well as the industry heavyweights.

FEI – FEI :It’s all about the vibe! The Feided Launch parties are for my fans out there, to put on some fun parties, spread the energy and have some wicked experiences. At the end of the day, I’m all about creating an experience for everyone out there. QVMM: The VMM would like to ask can you tell the budding DJ producer what do you look for in a track that you may decide to sign on your Feided label?
FEI – FEI :Really looking for stuff that strikes me either as something I would like to play myself or something that is unique in it’s own right. Great ideas, a banging club track, or just something that takes me off guard. No genre limits, anything trance, techno, progressive, it’s all game!
