The Interview
Hi there Russell G hope you are well!
Q: The VMM would like to know how is 2010 kicking off for you so far Russell?
A: 2010 has started really well, I started the year in Jakarta whilst on my debut tour of Asia and since then things have been going from strength to strength.
Â
Q: Russell can you tell us why you wanted to become a DJ producer and which dj’s you are influenced by musically?
A: I got into DJ’ing and producing as I love listening to and playing new music, I first started clubbing in 1998 and at that time my main influences were DJ’s such as Paul Oakenfold, Tall Paul & Seb Fontaine (some of their b2b sets were the best I’ve heard to this day!).
Â
Q: Can you tell the VMM what new releases we can we look out for in the coming months from Russell G and your other aliases?
A: The next few months are busy release wise, over the last week I have had 3 new releases (Whippersnap & Ascend on Baroque & PTB on 303Lovers) which have been hammered by a lot of leading DJ’s, the next couple of months see my debuts on labels inc. Hotfingers with a massive summer track called ‘Idera’, this is a huge chord laden track ideal for the summer, I’m currently awaiting the vocals for this, it’s going to be BIG!
Â
Q: Russell G can you tell the VMM what gig’s you have coming up around the globe in the coming months?
A: I’m just in the middle of organising some pretty exciting gigs and tours for the summer, keep an eye on http://www.myspace.com/russgdj where all will be revealed.
Â
Q: The VMM would like to know do you have any interesting Russell G guest-mixes we can look out for in the coming months?
A: I do indeed, again keep an eye on the Myspace page over the coming weeks.
Â
Q: The VMM would like to know why do you like to produce different styles of dance music?
A: I’m heavily influenced by various styles and this definitely reflects in my productions, it’s also very important to me to have productions of my own that I can play at any time of the evening.
Â
Q: Can you tell the VMM Russell what studio set up do you have and what’s you favourite bit of studio kit at the moment?
A: I’ve recently made the move from Ableton to Logic which has obviously meant purchasing a Mac for the studio, that’s currently my favourite thing right now but there’s going to be a lot of purchases very soon which may well take that title.
Â
Q: Can you tell the VMM what you most love about djing and producing dance music in this new digital age?
A: Technology is moving at such a rapid rate now there is no limit at all to what can be done whilst DJ’ing or producing, the brand new Pioneer CDJ-2000’s and DJM2000 look amazing and I can’t wait to get on a pair of those.
Exciting times…
